PRACTICE and EVENT REMINDERS for week of 08/08/2011...

  • Thursday, August 11 - Immediately after school until 5:30 P.M.
  • Saturday Sports Festival, August 13 - Practice at the school from 3-5; Load truck 5-6; Arrive at stadium 6:30 (see info below); Perform 7:35; Wrap up at stadium after performance @ 8; Dismiss at 8:15

Parents will need to have their students at Heardmont near the concession stand by 6:30 P.M. for a performance time of 7:35 P.M. Transportation will not be provided to Heardmont. Band students are to wear their band polo, khaki shorts, and tennis shoes for the performance.

Students will enter the gate on the home side. Parents will need to enter through the ticket gate on the visitors side.

 

Tips for after school practice...

Beginning Thursday after school band practices get underway. The band will practice until 5:30 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Send a change of clothes and tennis shoes with your student that they can store in their band locker. Also make sure you student has water since it will not be provided. Send their water container full of ice and they can store that in their band locker as well and then fill it with water before practice.

 

Tips for Friday once football games begin...

Students are allowed to leave the campus on Friday after school but must return by 4:30 unless otherwise noted. Some students may prefer to stay on campus after school and have food brought to them. Students will need to have eaten prior to leaving the campus on the buses for the games for they are not allowed to eat in uniform but with some exception. Chosen foods should be agreeable to their stomachs and the hot weather. (i.e. no spicy foods, heavy milk foods, etc.) Water will be provided at games.

After games, students will be transported by bus back to OMHS and can be picked up from there after their uniforms are replaced and trucks are unloaded.

3 Game Day Meals Payment...

There are 3 game/contests where meals will be pre-ordered for ALL band members. Cost is $15. per member. If you have not yet turned in this check, please do so. Check should be made payable to OMHS Band. Your student can place the check in the payment box in the band room.

Uniforms and Bandos...

If your child has not come home with his/her bandos or his/her t-shirt, they are still in the closet. I will be at the school after practice on Thurs., Aug.25 if they would like to pick those up. Our first game is the 26 so if they do not get them on the 25, they can get them before we leave for Buckhorn. I will also be giving out gloves on Thurs. after practice.

I will be ordering bandos this week. These are the names I have for ordering: W. Monnette, Z. Harrington, S. Goode, G. Goode, N. Boone, and C. Konkel. If your name is on this list, please e-mail me and let me know what size you need. If you are not on this list and need bandos, please e-mail me ASAP and let me know your child's name and size. I will not be ordering bandos anymore this year.

Urgent need for hydration tech...

Below is the job description, This position needs to be filled ASAP our first game is fast approaching.

  • Require someone to commit for all games, competitions & showcases, etc.
  • Needs to get the water, ice & coolers to the school for away games & competitions. The water & ice are stored at Heardmont.
  • Once the coolers are on the truck, the chaperones can handle it from there, so the person doesn’t really have to travel unless he/she wants to.
  • For home games the ice & water are already there, so the person just needs to get the coolers to Heardmont.
  • Depending on space, they sometimes come over on the truck.
  • To transport the water & ice it would help to have a pickup. To transport the coolers, if required, it is a necessity
  • Ice down drinks for home games for visiting band and for our band, the head chaperone or director will let you know how many is required for the visiting band
  • Less water is needed as the season gets cooler Coordinate with equipment chair to get coolers on trucks if necessary
  • Deliver the coolers to the stand where band will be sitting and to visiting band at home games. After distribution pick up coolers and take back to trucks

May need to locate the key to the ice and concession at Heardmont to ice down for away games, coordinate with concession chair.

Band Polos and Spirit Wear...

The band polos and spirit wear are ready for pick up. They are in a box in Mr. Duren's office. If you placed an order at band registration or since then, please let your child know that they can pick it up. They are labeled and ready to go.
